Xiaomi pulls Mi Music from Play Store in India
China's Xiaomi has pulled its music streaming app Mi Music from the Google Play Store in India amid heightened scrutiny of the firm in the country. Upon opening the app's Play Store link, the site shows.
"The requested URL wasn't found on this server." Xiaomi had shut its financial services division in India, which included Mi Credit app, in October.
The shutdown of Mi Music is likely due to the Indian government's concerns about data security and privacy. The government has been cracking down on Chinese apps in recent years, alleging that they pose a threat to national security.
According to reports, the firm has discontinued a number of service offerings in India since last year. In October of last year, Xiaomi closed down its financial services division in the nation, which included the Mi Credit loan app. The business stopped providing its cloud backup service globally at the same time. Zilli, a short-form video app, was also terminated by the phone manufacturer earlier this year.
Xiaomi has not yet commented on the shutdown of Mi Music. However, the company has said that it is committed to complying with all Indian laws and regulations. The business made layoffs earlier this year in order to streamline its operations and reduce costs.
It is unclear what the impact of the shutdown of Mi Music will be on Xiaomi's business in India. However, it is likely to be a blow to the company's music streaming business in the country.
