WhatsApp to stop working on some phones after October 24
WhatsApp has revealed that it will stop supporting on some phones from October 24th. The company states that one of the oldest and least used phones will lose WhatsApp support. While Android phones with OS 4.1 and above will have WhatsApp support, iPhones with iOS 12 & later and phones with KaiOS 2.5.0 and above, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2, will not lose WhatsApp support.
WhatsApp has announced this decision on its support page, stating that it needs to end support for older operating systems in order to focus on the latest ones and provide the best possible experience for its users.
However, experts raises concerned about the fact that one of the oldest and least used phones will lose WhatsApp support. This means that some people may lose access to WhatsApp, even if they are still using their phones. Rather, WhatsApp needs to focus on supporting the latest operating systems in order to provide the best possible experience for its users. However, I hope that WhatsApp will find a way to continue supporting older phones for people who need them.
If you are using a device running Android 4.0 or below or iOS 12 or below, you will need to upgrade your device to a newer one in order to continue using WhatsApp after October 24, 2023. You can check the version of your operating system by going to Settings > About on your device.
WhatsApp also notes that a prerequisite to the verification process requires the phone to be able to receive SMS or calls. Also, new accounts cannot be set up on Wi-Fi-only devices. The company says to choose which devices they will stop supporting, it takes a look at the oldest software that has the lowest user base and also factors in whether these devices can smoothly run the app.
