WhatsApp exploring longer status videos and UPI payments
For Android users, WhatsApp is testing extended 60-second status video capabilities as well as streamlined UPI peer-to-peer payments. A separate QR code scanner for payments and the option to pin several chats were features of the beta versions. The user experience is improved by these upgrades, which should soon be more widely available in the stable app channel.
These features were first noticed by feature tracker WABetaInfo on recent beta versions of WhatsApp for Android. WABetaInfo marked the ability to upload a 60 second long video on WhatsApp beta version for Android 2.24.7.6. The latest beta version of the app has been rolled out to users who have signed up to receive a beta version of the app. However, WABetaInfo points out that viewers will also need to install the latest beta version to access these longer status updates.
The beta version for Android 2.24.7.3, rolled out to testers just before the most recent update, introduces another new feature that will allow users to make UPI payments with a couple of taps. Now, the beta testers can tap on the dedicated QR code scanner shortcut, located above the main chat list, for transactions.
