War film ‘1917’ bags 10 Oscar nominations
Reliance Entertainment’s soon to be released war film, 1917 has managed to bag 10 Oscar nominations. Slated for a January 17 release, the film had already a few awards (Best picture-Drama & Best director) into its kitty.
The film has now managed to bag 10 Oscar nominations in the categories of - Best Picture, Directing, Writing (original screenplay), Cinematography, Music (original score), Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Production Design, Visual Effects and Makeup & hairstyling.
The awards ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on February 9.
Director Sam Mendes’s ‘one continuous shot’ war thriller is inspired from the stories Sam heard from his grandfather was a major success during its first two holiday weeks in limited release, and has now bagged the No. 1 slot at the US box office in its opening weekend wide, with worldwide collections already touching US$ 60 million.
At the 25th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards yesterday, ‘1917’ won awards in 3 categories - Best Director -Sam Mendes, Best Cinematography – Roger Deakins and Best Editing – Lee Smith.
The film is also the winner in the Best Picture - Drama category and was also honoured with the Best Director’s award for Sam Mendes at the 77th Golden Globes Awards.
Starring George MacKay as Lance Corporal Schofield and Dean-Charles Chapman as Lance Corporal Blake, Mendes has captured the hearts and minds of audiences and critics alike, with Roger Deakins’ cinematography and attracting rave reviews.
The film has been produced by DreamWorks Pictures and Reliance Entertainment in association with New Republic Pictures, a Neal Street production, along with Mogambo. The Sam Mendes directed has the leading cast of George MacKay, Dean-Charles Chapman, with Colin Firth and Benedict Cumberbatch.
It will hit the big screens in India on January 17, 2020.
