Vivo introduces new operating system for smart devices - BlueOS
In a bold step, Vivo has unveiled its self-developed operating system, BlueOS, at the 2023 Vivo Developer conference. This unique system, based on the Rust programming language, is designed to offer enhanced security, privacy, and AI capabilities. The new OS is set to debut on smartwatches, starting with the Vivo Watch 3. However, this new OS is not designed for smartphones; instead, it is for use in smart wearables and smart home devices.
What sets BlueOS apart is its foundation on the Rust programming language, a first in the tech industry. This choice of language is believed to make the system framework less susceptible to security issues, a crucial aspect in today's digital landscape.
BlueOS is engineered to be compatible with a variety of standard kernels, including Posix, Linux, and RTOS kernels. It also incorporates an AI service engine, enabling the integration of large AI models for functionalities such as code generation, image and text generation, and various AI-based capabilities.
A key promise of BlueOS is improved performance. The OS claims to deliver a 48 percent boost in rendering efficiency and a remarkable 67 percent reduction in memory consumption. It offers support to a wide range of specs of up to 4GHz processor and 24MB of RAM. The company is promising that the new OS will offer a faster app opening, smoother app switching, improved motion rendering, more responsive sliding lists, and reduced loading times.
