ViewSonic eyeing the EdTech sector in coming quarters

In a chat with VARINDIA, Eric Wei - Sr. Sales Director, ViewSonic Asia Pacific discusses about India market, scope, growth verticals, technology innovation and channels
The technology industry is one of the fast paced verticaland upcoming innovations like Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality has even accelerated the pace. The evolution of technology industry is well accepted by the Indian customers. ViewSonic foresees a wide opportunity in the country and it is among the company’s top performing countries.
“The technology industry in India is ever evolving and we have observed an acceptance towards the new tech innovations in the Indian customers recently which was a little unlikely in the years gone by. One of the biggest challenges that a brand like ours faces is to disrupt the existing customer loyalties and create a strong positioning for ViewSonic.The technology market is one of the fastest growing sectors in the industry. There are constant new innovations, applications and technologies being introduced in the market. The latest applications that have become instrumental in the evolution of the visual technology industry are the launch of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) applications,” views Eric Wei.
Talking about the scope in India market, he adds, “India is a developing country which means there is an immense scope for brands to succeed here and India is one of the top three performing countries for ViewSonic. However, if we compare this to International or developed markets the growth in comparatively stagnant.”
Further he says,“We are highly committed to the Indian market and the audience here. Our core base of operations is based out of Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. Currently, we are present in all the leading electronic retail stores. Our main focus for the coming quarters is the EdTech sector and we will be aligning our marketing strategy in the same direction. However, we still are testing the waters in the Indian market and will pave our plan for the future accordingly. We endeavor to position ourselves as a leading brand offering the most consumer-friendly products across different segments of the target audience from corporates, gaming enthusiasts, professionals or individuals seeking recreational use.”
Growth verticals
ViewSonic is observing Gaming and education as the two most promising industry. By 2021, the gaming industry is expected to reach $1 billion and now the young generation is taking up this as a career as well. Apart from Gaming, digital learning is also an important growth vertical for ViewSonic.
“In India, the gaming industry has been evolving from casual to formal gamers. Today, India has more than 250 gaming companies and the data consumption is 1.4GB/person which is estimated to grow to 7GB/person by 2021. The gaming industry is expected to double and become $1 billion by 2021.
The gaming industry is one of the most desired career option for young aspirants today, with numerous opportunities to build career. In terms of digital learning, it is believed that technology will change the face of education in India and technology and education will go hand – in – hand. Digital learning is an inexhaustible step towards a better and more efficient world. So far, we have seen a firm growth of 25 per cent and is estimated to become a $1.96 billion industry by 2021,” says Eric.
Technological Innovation
Talking about the technological innovation, Eric explains, “We constantly work towards providing better and improved products to our customers, the latest product innovations that we introduced in the Indian market were our series of lamp free projectors X10-4k and M1+. X10-4K is equipped with an extremely high colour accuracy performance when placed alongside similar products and M1+ equipped with an in built Harman Kardon speakers. Another innovative technology which is patent to ViewSonic Corporation is our in house proprietary IFP software “MyViewBoard”, most IFP players in the market outsource alike software. The MyViewBoard software is compatible with both Windows, Android, Chrome web and Google classroom.”
Channels
The company through various activities like roadshows, promotion on online mode of communication, experience centers in partner stores etc. to motivate its partners.
“We try and motivate our channel partners as much as we can. Even though we are fairly new in the Indian market, we do participate in certain activities, such as regular engagements through roadshows in different cities, promoting the channel partners through the online mode of communication by including their logo/name in the weekly EDM’s and by establishing experience centers in partnered store for the consumers to get a hands on experience before buying the product,” discusses Eric.
