Videocon Telecom to participate in Spectrum Auction for Delhi
It seems that Videocon Telecom is seeking to re-establish itself as a strategic national telecom player and is planning to bid in the upcoming licence auction. Videocon Telecom has recently made a comeback in the Telecom industry and has a strategic presence across the Northern corridor of the country forming the Hindi-speaking belt. The company has been making huge investments in the business and has successfully rolled out 3 out of 6 licences acquired in November’12 auction.
Videocon Telecom finds the sharp cut in the reserve spectrum floor price for the 900 Mhz spectrum to be very attractive and is seeing it as a big opportunity. The brand is evaluating to bid for the 900 Mhz licence in Delhi in the upcoming January’14 auction. The brand has appointed Deloitte to evaluate the opportunity and present a business case on the same. The success of the bid will enable the brand in gaining foothold in one of the most important locations in terms of strategic and potential importance to the brand.
Arvind Bali, Director & CEO, Videocon Telecom, says, The sharp cut in the floor price for 900 Mhz spectrum is very attractive, and particularly for the Delhi telecom circle it makes a very lucrative business case. The Delhi telecom circle is of an utmost importance to us, both strategically and potentially, and the fact that the Delhi licence will be available on 900 Mhz spectrum completely fits in our strategic framework.900 Mhz is a much more efficient spectrum and the fact that the liberalized licence regime allows you to offer next-generation data service makes it even more lucrative.
Videocon Telecom is also seeing huge opportunity in the liberalized licence regime and talks about unleashing the data opportunity in the telecom circle of Delhi NCR in a big way, where the 900Mhz spectrum will be the most efficient spectrum for a densely-populated city like Delhi NCR.
