Umang Bedi quits Facebook after a short stint of 15 months
Umang Bedi who had joined Facebook as its Managing Director just 15 months back has stepped down from the position. The social networking company said this in a statement released on Tuesday.
Umang Bedi joined the company in June 2016. While at Facebook, Umang was responsible for the South Asia region where he built and maintained strategic relationships with top clients and regional agencies in the country. He was earlier with Adobe where he served the company as the managing director of the South Asia region.
Facebook confirmed the development in a statement - “We confirm that Umang Bedi will be leaving his role at Facebook at the end of this year. He has built a really strong team and business during his time with us, and we wish him all the best.”
Meanwhile Facebook has appointed Sandeep Bhushan, former IT and mobile business director at Samsung, as the interim managing director. In his capacity as Director (Consumer and Media), South Asia at Facebook, Bhushan handled the new revenue streams from FMCG advertisers across the region. Before joining Samsung, Bhushan was the vice president, digital for HT Media.
While the reason behind Umang’s departure is still not known, reports citing sources said that he is set to start an entrepreneurial venture of his own.
A recent media report states that Facebook users in India have crossed 240-million mark becoming the largest audience country for the social media giant. As of July 13, Facebook reported a total “potential audience” of 241 million active users in India, compared with 240 million in the US.
