Tom Cruise gets teary eyed as Top Gun: Maverick gets 6-minute standing ovation at Cannes 2022
The prestigious Cannes Film festival on its 2nd day saw Top Gun: Maverick stars Tom Cruise and Jennifer Connelly making a dramatic entry in a helicopter.
They arrived for the high octane premiere while eight fighter jets zoomed above the event expelling smoke in red and blue to match the French flag. Later, the film got a standing ovation and Tom Cruise was taken by surprise with the reaction he received from the Cannes team.
While Top Gun: Maverick will release in theatres on May 25, the film saw a grand premiere at the 75th Cannes film festival. The six-minute long standing ovation brought the cast to tears.
Tom Cruise was moved by the standing ovation. He said at the event, “They all worked so hard to bring this to the big screen, and it’s a dream to be here. I’m never going to forget this evening."
However, there was another surprise in store for Tom Cruise. The festival presented Cruise with a Palme d’Or, the highest prize awarded at the Cannes Film Festival.
For the premiere of Top Gun: Maverick, Tom Cruise looked dapper in a crisp blue suit over a white shirt, his messy hair and that iconic smile. His co-actor Jennifer Connelly looked ravishing in a pinafore dress, minimal makeup, and sleek side-parted hair.
