Threads introduces Tags globally
Threads has introduced Tags worldwide which are essentially hashtags with a unique twist. The company began testing the tag feature in Australia last month, and it is now rolling out tags worldwide. Tags function a little differently as compared to hashtags on platforms such as Instagram and X. Unlike hashtags that are restricted to a single word, Tags on Threads allow users to input complete phrases and include special characters.
However, you are limited to making only one tag per post. In contrast to many platforms, like Instagram, where posts often feature numerous hashtags at the end, Threads seems to avoid this issue entirely. Meta explains that this approach "facilitates others interested in that topic to discover and read your post."
Another notable distinction regarding tags is their appearance within posts.
While you add tags by typing the "#" symbol in line with the text, the published post omits the symbol beside them. Instead, tags are presented as blue text within the post, resembling a typical hyperlink. Alternatively, you can include a tag by tapping the “#” symbol on the new post UI.
The intent behind Tags on Threads however aligns with that of hashtags. When you share on Threads, tags serve as an excellent means to connect with individuals who share an interest in the topics you're discussing. Moreover, for all users, they provide an effective way to delve deeper into their interests.
