TCS will not appoint a new COO after incumbent NG Subramaniam retires in May
Tata Consultancy Services' Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Executive Director N Ganapathy Subramaniam is set to retire next month. However, India’s largest software services exporter said it does not plan to appoint Subramanian’s replacement and will redistribute the duties.
Subramaniam was appointed as COO of TCS, back in February 2017 and has been with the company for over 40 years.
“As you all know, our COO would be retiring next month after more than 14 years of dedicated service to TCS. Many generations of TCSers, including me, have been mentored by him. He has done many roles simultaneously during his long career and has been a pillar of support for many of us. On behalf of all of us at TCS, I would like to thank NGS for his leadership support and mentoring for all these years,” said K Krithivasan, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, TCS while addressing a press conference post the March quarter earnings.
He also added, “He's (Subramaniam) been doing many things and no single individual can replace him, our current thinking is, our leadership team, we are re-distributing the work he's been doing and we don’t intend to appoint a new COO.”
sharing his emotions, Subramaniam said, "I will be among the first ones to cheer TCS from the outside," he remarked, indicating his continued commitment to the company’s success even beyond his tenure as COO.
After completing his Masters in Mathematics from University of Madras, Subramanium in 1982 joined TCS. He attended various training programs, including the Executive Program for Growing Companies at Stanford University.
Before being appointed as the COO of the company, he held the position of Executive Vice President and Head of TCS Financial Solutions, a strategic business unit of TCS. In that role, he was responsible for steering the non-linear growth strategies, products and platform businesses of TCS for over five years.
He has held many key leadership positions in TCS across client delivery, business development, integration of businesses, and product development.
