Siemens to unveil Tomography System for Radiotherapy
Siemens Healthcare has announced to debut the new RT Pro edition of the Somatom Definition AS Open 20/64 large bore computed tomography system at the Second Forum of the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ESTRO) in Geneva. This edition is specially developed for use in radiation therapy and permits more precision in therapy planning and cancer treatment - particularly under difficult conditions, such as obese patients and artifacts from metal implants and tumor motion.
With the RT Pro edition, Siemens and Varian Medical Systems will also be introducing new software interfaces that connect Siemens’ Primus and Oncor linear accelerators with Varian’s ARIA oncology information system – the first fruits of the joint development work within the framework of the strategic partnership between the two companies.
The edition uses advanced algorithms to calculate body contours and tissue attenuation outside the normal scan field. With the Motion Management Pro module of RT Pro edition, Siemens will offer a comprehensive solution for analyzing tumor motion during the breathing cycle. With this edition, Siemens will also enable the benefits of dual-energy CT imaging available to computed tomography systems with the extra-large 80 cm gantry.
RT Pro edition systems as expected by Siemens will be available at the end of April, whereas an upgrade for the installed base will be available as of mid-May.
