Shaktikanta Das becomes India's G20 Sherpa

According to a news report, the Ministry of Finance has declared that Shaktikant Das has been appointed as India's G20 Sherpa till December 31, 2018 for the Development Track of the grouping. He was former Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA).
There are two tracks in G 20 – Finance Track and Development Track. The Finance Track is managed by the Secretary (Economic Affairs) as India's Deputy to G20. On the other hand, the Development Track is coordinated by the Sherpa. The Department of Economic Affairs will provide the necessary support to the Sherpa.
Sherpas are representatives of leaders of G20 member-countries, coordinate on the agenda of the summit.
The G20 is a central forum for international cooperation on financial and economic issues, accounts for more than four-fifths of gross world product and is home to almost two-thirds of the world's population.
