Samsung in partnership with Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti sets up 400 Smart Class rooms

Samsung India in partnership with Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti has completed 400+ Samsung Smart Class rooms at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya government schools across the country.

These Smart Classes are equipped with an interactive Samsung whiteboard, Samsung laptops/tablets, a printer, Wi-Fi and a power backup to ensure continuous learning. Since the first Samsung Smart Class was established in 2013, over 2 lakh students have benefited from it. In addition, over 7,400 teachers have been trained on how to use interactive technology to teach.

Samsung is also working with the Government of Karnataka on the Chetana program that aims to nurture and mentor students and acquaint them with technology. Samsung is promoting computer and digital education to underprivileged girl students of government schools and rural areas in the state for three years.

The Chetana program provides mentorship for two years for meritorious girls who have passed Class 10 from government schools. It also conducts regular residential camps, hands on workshops and domain specific winter schools for these girls. As part of this initiative, Samsung will donate tablets to be used in the Chetana program.

The company also runs its Samsung Technical School program that provides youth with systematic vocational education and local employment. The school offers customer service education, soft skills and capabilities needed to survive in today’s competitive work atmosphere. Samsung has set up 18 such schools in collaboration with the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and Departments of Technical Education in five state governments.

These schools address the need for talented manpower with practical know-how and relevant industry experience. Students also benefit from exposure to Samsung manufacturing facilities and authorized service centers. Till date, Samsung Technical Schools have provided technical training for job opportunities to over 1,700 youth.

The Samsung Digital Academy trains technology students on Tizen operating system. This academy offers youth a Tizen development course including the app development process, testing and debugging, device Application Program Interface (APIs) as well as packaging and installation of the apps on devices such as smartphones, televisions and tablets. The program is currently operational through three Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) at Delhi, Hyderabad and Kanpur, and through the Telangana Academy of Skills & Knowledge (TASK) on Tizen.

In healthcare, Samsung aims to support the government’s efforts to provide the best of healthcare to millions of citizens especially from economically weaker sections. Through this program, Samsung provides government hospitals its innovative healthcare equipment such as ultrasound, digital radiology and accessories, with the aim to make affordable healthcare accessible to the large number of patients at select Government hospitals in Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Gurugram and Delhi.

Samsung, through its Research & Development Institute in Bengaluru is working with the Government of Karnataka on primary health management across 30 districts of Karnataka under the smart city Initiative. The partnership allows the government to help monitor comprehensive primary health care through the use of smart solution on the Samsung Galaxy Tab IRIS, which is India’s first tablet integrated with IRIS-recognition technology that can be used as an authentication mechanism required for a variety of applications. The Department of Health will be providing hospitals, community and primary health centers with these tablets and will train their staff on its usage to register and input data on the treatment of patients.
