Regulate Generative AI
Generative AI involves using machine learning algorithms to analyze and learn from large amounts of data, and then use that learning to generate new content that is similar in style or structure to the original data.
Generative AI can be used for a wide range of applications, such as creating art, music, or even writing stories. The rapid advance of generative AI tools has drawn the attention of regulators around the world. Political bodies and policy-makers are accelerating efforts to put laws in place controlling the potential risks of AI and making developers accountable for the actions of their systems.
Governments around the world are considering new AI regulations to tackle the potential dangers of next-generation AI tools like ChatGPT. Many feel that, in order to get time to set safety standards and mitigate potential dangers, tech leaders have recently called for a six-month pause on the development of powerful AI tools like ChatGPT.
A group of EU lawmakers working on AI legislation is calling for a global summit to find ways to control the development of advanced AI systems, according to reports from Reuters. The 12 European Parliament members have urged US President Joe Biden and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to convene a meeting of world leaders.
Global policymakers don't understand AI enough to regulate it. Tech companies must step up now. Recently, China released a comprehensive draft of measures to regulate Generative Artificial Intelligence, which can automatically turn basic user inputs into creative outputs like texts, images or videos.
China intends to hold AI service providers responsible for machine-generated content, as well as filtering inappropriate content, auditing user prompts, verifying user identities, preventing algorithmic discrimination and generating "fake" news.
At the same time, Indian companies should also invest in coalition building and a global information exchange, in order to reach consensus on the minimum safety standards that all public-facing generative AI must meet
