Red Hat makes available Next-Gen Software Collections
Red Hat has announced general availability of Red Hat Software Collections 1.2, delivering the latest, stable versions of essential development tools, dynamic languages, and open source databases all on a separate lifecycle from Red Hat Enterprise Linux. The third installment of Red Hat Software Collections now includes vital open developer tools, such as GCC 4.9, Maven and Git, and, for the first time, makes the Eclipse IDE available on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.
In addition, Red Hat is offering Dockerfiles for many of the most popular software collections, aiding in the rapid creation and deployment of container-based applications.
Delivered on a separate lifecycle from Red Hat Enterprise Linux with a more frequent release cadence, Red Hat Software Collections helps accelerate the development and deployment of modern applications.
Jim Totton, Vice-President & General Manager, Platforms Business Unit, Red Hat, said, “Whether operating on bare metal, maintaining a virtualized infrastructure, or designing applications for the cloud, developers, and the systems administrators who support them, need access to the latest, stable versions of the open source languages, databases, and tools that drive their operations. The newest installment of Red Hat Software Collections provides development teams with the necessary tools to develop and deploy applications into production across the open hybrid cloud while also giving them the confidence, and the technologies, to address the promise of containerized application development.”
As with all versions of Red Hat Software Collections, the languages, databases and tools featured in Red Hat Software Collections 1.2 can be used to build and deploy applications into production with confidence, as these components are supported by Red Hat for three years. Additionally, Red Hat Software Collections can be used to develop applications across Red Hat Enterprise Linux and OpenShift, Red Hat’s award-winning Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) offering, providing customers with extensive flexibility and choice for development and deployment.
Red Hat Software Collections 1.2 is available now for use with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 to customers and partners with select active Red Hat Enterprise Linux subscriptions.
