RailTel Corporation is one of the largest telecom infrastructure providers in the country. Set up in 2000 as the ICT arm of Indian Railways, RailTel owns the pan-India optic fiber network. The optical fiber and communications (OFC) network covers 70% of India's population, touching all important towns and cities of the country.
RailTel has already covered 45,000 plus Rkms with fibre, which connects over 4,500 cities and towns across India. It is closely working with various central, stage and private entities helping them build the next generation digital infrastructure. It has worked with Rajasthan and Haryana governments, Pune Smart City as well as MHRD by providing Campus WiFi in 24 Central Universities.
RailTel has also implemented some Digital Transformation projects like e-office for paperless Indian Railways, Telepresence in operational meetings and inauguration ceremonies, Digital information walls and train announcements as well as surveillance of railway stations. Google is also working along with RailTel for offering free WiFi at railway stations.
