Quanta hit by cyber attack, hackers demand $50 mn

Apple supplier Quanta has been hit by a ransomware attack and the hackers have demanded $50 million. The ransomware group REvil claimed that they have stolen Apple blueprints and they will continue to post new files every day until they get the payment.
Hackers claim to have infiltrated the networks of Quanta Computer Inc., which makes Macbooks and hardware for HP, Facebook and Google. The company also told Bloomberg that there has been no material impact on business operations.
Quanta has acknowledged an attack but did not reveal if its data was stolen. The company said, Quanta Computer’s information security team has worked with external IT experts in response to cyber-attacks on a small number of Quanta servers
Lior Div, CEO of Cybereason and an expert in hacking, forensics, reverse engineering, malware and cryptography, said that the attack is a direct challenge to the Biden administration from Russia.
The hackers claimed that they have Apple product data after breaching Quanta Computer, a Taiwanese company that is the biggest laptop manufacturer in the world.
“In a message posted on a dark web portal, the REvil gang said that Quanta refused to pay to get its stolen data back and, as a result, the REvil operators have now decided to go after the company’s primary customer instead,” the report said .
There were known customers of Quanta Computer include some of the biggest laptop vendors in the world, such as HP, Dell, Microsoft, Toshiba, LG, Lenovo, and many others, as per the report. However, Quanta has refused to pay the $50 million ransom for the data.
