Qualcomm to invest heavily on Tablet Market
Chip-maker, Qualcomm, has announced that it is going to invest huge amounts on the tablet market as well as on research and development (R&D) activities of tablets. Along with this, the company will be investing on products that will help the tablets perform at high speed and multitask without compromising on battery life.
Anand Chandrasekhar, Senior Vice-President & Chief Marketing Officer, Qualcomm, said, “We are investing heavily into tablet PCs, smart TVs and we expect a significant pipeline of devices in the next few months. The tab market will be significant for us. The upcoming 800 version will be used in both tablets and smartphones. While we are yet to announce our tablet plans, I can tell you that we are heavily investing in this space."
The Snapdragon processors of Qualcomm have the ability to power more than 850 mobile devices and it can work with all the leading smartphone devices. Qualcomm has also announced that later this year, it will be launching Snapdragon 600 and 800 chips for high-end phones, tablets and smart TVs. The company claims that the new chips can deliver 40% better performance.
0.7 billion smartphones and tablets were shipped globally this year compared to the shipment of 0.29 billion PCs in 2012. The company is also expecting that the shipment of smartphones and tablets is expected to zoom to 1.8 billion units, while the PC shipments are expected to stay stable at 0.3 billion by 2016.
