Punjab Govt notifies 28 new cybercrime police stations in the state

The Punjab Government has taken a step towards enhancing cybersecurity and combating digital crimes by announcing the establishment of 28 new cyber-crime police stations across the state. These police stations will be set up in each district and police commissionerate. These specialized units will focus on investigating various cybercrimes, including hacking, online fraud, identity theft, and cyberbullying, among others.

This was announced by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Friday.

Yadav said the police department had sent a proposal to strengthen its cybercrime investigation infrastructure capabilities and thanked the chief minister for clearing the same.

“These police stations will serve as dedicated hubs for investigating and combating cyber-offences including online financial fraud, identity theft, cyber-bullying, hacking and other online scams,” he said in a statement.

With the increase in the use of digital technology and the prevalence of cybercrimes, the establishment of dedicated cyber-crime police stations is aimed at strengthening law enforcement’s capabilities to tackle such offenses effectively.

The decision to establish these cyber crime police stations highlights the Punjab Government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its citizens in the digital realm.
