Today, more than 50 Crore users in India use WhatsApp. Owing to this popularity, ‘Desi’ Cyber Criminals have found out a way to loot people by taking over WhatsApp Accounts of victims.
It is true that hackers can take control of your WhatsApp account. These are various types of scams one can get trapped into, such as:
· Phishing: This is a type of social engineering attack where the hacker sends you a message that looks like it is from a legitimate source, such as WhatsApp or your bank. The message may contain a link that, when clicked, will take you to a fake website that looks like the real website. Once you enter your login information on the fake website, the hacker can steal it.
· Malware: This is software that is designed to harm your computer or steal your data. Hackers can send you malware disguised as a legitimate file, such as an attachment to an email or a download from a website. Once you open the malware, it can give the hacker access to your computer or your WhatsApp account.
· SIM swapping: This is a technique where the hacker tricks your mobile carrier into transferring your SIM card to their own phone. This gives the hacker access to your phone number and, in turn, your WhatsApp account.
Experts are on the opinion that, A VPN can help to protect your privacy and security by encrypting your traffic and routing it through a server in another location. This makes it more difficult for hackers to track your activity or steal your data.
Make sure your phone is password protected and that you only install apps from trusted sources. You should also keep your phone's operating system up-to-date. If you think that your WhatsApp account has been hacked, you should immediately change your password and report the incident to WhatsApp.
