Prince Harry and Meghan turn away from being senior royals
Prince Harry and Meghan have announced to step back as "senior" royals and work to become financially independent. They have planned to split their time between the UK and North America.
No other royal - including the Queen or Prince William - was consulted before the statement and Buckingham Palace is "disappointed". Senior royals are hurt by the announcement.
They have also posted on their Instagram page; the couple said they made the decision "after many months of reflection and internal discussions".
They commented that they intend to step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty the Queen. They said they plan to balance their time between the UK and North America while continuing to honour their duty to the Queen, the Commonwealth, and their patronages.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex said that this geographic balance will enable them to raise their son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing their families with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of their new charitable entity.
