PlayStation Plus announces new free games for Jan 2021

PlayStation Plus has offered its subscribers a gift for 2021 with an impressive selection of free games – Maneater, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Greedfall. While PlayStation 5 users can get their hands on all three games, PlayStation 4 users will get free access to just the last two.

Sony launched the next-gen PS5 in November, since then it has been looking to offer a free game exclusively for the new console. With Maneater, it appears to have set the ball rolling.

The PlayStation 5-version of the title has been specially upgraded to show off the console's hardware prowess, including ray-tracing support and 4K resolution at 60 fps. PS5 players can also access the other two titles via backwards compatibility.

The company in its blog post announced that all three games will be available for download starting Tuesday, January 5, until February 1. Both PS5 and PS4 players will still have access to last month's free game lineup – Just Cause 4, Rocket Arena, and Worms Rumble – until Monday, January 4. As an added bonus for PS5 owners, indie launch title Bugsnax will still be available for a last round of downloads until January 4.

Sony has announced that its gaming subscription service 'PlayStation Plus' users will get a new lineup of free games next month.

"PlayStation Plus starts 2021 with a bang. PlayStation Plus members will receive two PS4 titles - action-adventure Shadow of the Tomb Raider and action RPG Greed Fall on January 5," the company said in a statement.

PlayStation 5 owners with a PlayStation Plus membership can play a terrifying apex predator in the open-world RPG Maneater. Maneater is an open-world RPG where players take control of a shark, which PlayStation Plus refers to as a SkaRkPG.

The game released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on May 22, 2020, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 in November 2020, will be released for the Nintendo Switch in the first half of 2021.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is an action-adventure video game developed by Eidos-Montreal and published by Square Enix. It continues the narrative from the 2015 game Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Meanwhile, GreedFall is an action role-playing game developed by Spiders and published by Focus Home Interactive.

The game is set in 17th century-styled fantasy setting and was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on September 10, 2019.
