The National Informatics Centre is part of the Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology's, Department of Electronics & Information Technology and is the premier science and technology organisation of the Government of India in informatics services and information & communication technology (ICT) applications.
Ever since its inception, NIC has played a pivotal role in steering e-governance applications in the government departments at the national, state and district levels. Almost all Indian-government websites are developed and managed by NIC. Besides NIC has been instrumental in steering applications of ICT at various levels in the Government, which in a way leverages Digital India.
In addition to setting up a National ICT Infrastructure for the Government, NIC has also designed and developed solutions/platforms for various sectors of the Government at the Centre and State. This facilitates wider transparency, data driven planning and management and enhancement in the quality of services.
