New Lumia on Windows 8 platform
Nokia has launched its new Lumia series, viz. Lumia 920 and Lumia 820, as part of their strategy to penetrate markets in China, India and South America. Both handsets are powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 processors. It is believed to be the company's first smartphone launch, using Windows 8 software in a joint event with Microsoft.
Steve Balmer, CEO, Microsoft, said, "The launch is an 'important milestone' in the tie-up between the two companies."
Stephen Elop, CEO, Nokia, stated, "The latest smartphones from the company would serve as an alternative to faceless black and grey mono blocks that you see out there." The company aims to launch Lumia 920 in the selective markets in the fourth quarter, but has not disclose the price yet.
Elop added, "The Lumia 920 has a 4.5-inch (11-cm) screen and an 8.7-mega pixel camera with a so-called floating lens that uses software for image stabilization and Nokia Lumia 820 is measured 4.3 inches with a floating lens that uses software for image stabilization, and has an 8-mega pixel camera."
