Given the paradigm shift that the global business landscape is undergoing, Dr Alok Bharadwaj who has served for Canon for 16 years in different capacities is now keen on exploring his entrepreneurial skills and leverage the opportunities that is coming his way to create something impactful. An excerpt -
How was your long journey in Canon?
My tenure in Canon has been for 16 years and it indeed was a journey of thousand miles that started with a tiny step in Delhi and culminated with a giant leap across Bay of Bengal in Singapore. I worked as a soldier, as an architect, a builder, internal leader, partnerships evangelist, a friend of media and as an industry spokesperson. It was quite fulfilling, gratifying and rewarding. I can say, it was a golden journey of my life and is etched on my persona and character. It has altered my approach in leadership, organisation cultures, leading transformations and connecting with people.
What kind of growth in the industry you see in Digital transformation?
The global forces are inspiring new narrative of progress as growth is shifting across industry planes amidst accelerating disruptions. We are currently living in a 'cognitive' era. The biggest lever of transformation is the 'digital transformation'. I see 3 levels of impact of digital transformations. The first one is on 'customer experience' as companies look at new architecture of competitive edge. With not just companies but industries colliding with industries and a new competitive world emerging, customer experience is the new battle to win.
The second one is 'efficiencies' as organisations look at automating by deploying technologies of AI, IOT & AR/VR. Almost all processes within organisations need to be reformatted using digital transformation. The third one and perhaps, in a revolutionary way, organisational silos need to be assassinated. A new organisational framework needs to evolve to create new synergies of teams and people. This is the new frontier of Digital transformation and a big topic of discussion. Confronting these dynamics to build a brighter future is what will bring in new growth trajectory. The work is in progress and I am hopeful that our next generation will experience great times.
What plans do you have to start your entrepreneurship journey?
When you look at the global business landscape, two things stand out clearly. Firstly the centre of gravity will soon be India, particularly for eco-political reasons. Secondly all companies are anxious to increase revenues, lower costs and delight customers. They cannot deploy archaic operating models and expect new generation results in re-configuring competitive edge. This will need massive transformations across industries and organisations, big or small. This opportunity got me inspired to play in this domain of transformations to help leaders enhance organisational performance. I am solidifying best suited propositions that can help create visible impact. This is how my next journey of entrepreneurship will commence. n
