Meta testing new messaging feature in Threads app
Meta has initiated trials for messaging features leveraging Instagram’s inbox, which will allow users to initiate new messages directly from the Threads app. Confirming this development, Meta stated that it is testing the ability to send a message from Threads to Instagram.
The feature can be seen at the top of the user’s profile, earlier the ‘mention’ button was positioned there. Now in place of the 'mention' button, the new button is labelled ‘message’.
This feature is now available to few Threads users.
Despite this update, Threads still lacks its own dedicated inbox, raising questions about its future integration. The current testing does not entail implementing DMs on Threads.
Threads do not offer a full Direct Messaging feature. It allows its users to send messages without switching to the other platform, Instagram. In order to check and respond to those messages, the user needs to open the Instagram app.
On a sidenote, Meta has also introduced the ‘trending now’ feature in Threads. This feature will highlight the sorts of conversations that are happening on the app. The feature was announced by Mark Zuckerberg earlier via a Threads post.
