"Make in India" A Step in the Right Direction

Make in India is the new buzz word that has been heard by every ear in the country, Launched in September 2014, the Make in India initiative is devised to transform India into a global design and manufacturing hub.Much more than an inspiring slogan,Make in India represents a comprehensive and unprecedented overhaul of out-dated processes and policies.

India emerged in2015 as the top destination globally for foreign direct investment, as the growth in FDI rose significantlyafter the launch of Make in India initiativeswith 48 percent increase in FDI equity inflows during October 2014 to April 2015 over the corresponding period last year.

Also, India's manufacturing sector has evolved through several phases - from the initial industrialization and the laidback license policies to liberalization and the current phase of global competitiveness. Today, Indian manufacturing companies in several sectors are targeting global markets and are becoming formidable global competitors. Many are already amongst the most competitive in their sectors. The country is expected to rank amongst the world’s top three growth economies and amongst the top three manufacturing destinations by 2020.

India’s potential to become an electronic manufacturing hub could be achieved fully under this initiative as the demand for electronic hardware expected to rise rapidly in the coming period. The government is promoting development of electronics manufacturing clusters throughout the country to provide world class infrastructure and facilities. Under the Sector Specific initiatives, the government is providing sector specific subsidies for promoting manufacturing.

But, with that being said, this government effort to harness the demand and boost the Indian economystill lacks a few major insights that would boost its effectiveness. Considering the core objective of the initiative that is manufacturing in the country, India needs more companies that could achieve expertise in the particular fields, companies that could manufacture products that meet international standards of quality &Durability within the country.
