Kaspersky plans to aware consumers about cyber threats through Partners
The cybersecurity space is continuously evolving at a rapid pace globally. India is also not lagging behind in fighting cybercrimes. As per Kaspersky reports India is among the top 10 most attacked countries in the world in 2019.
SECURITY TRENDS
“The cybersecurity landscape is evolving every second globally and India is not far behind in fighting advanced cybercrimes that are continuously targeted to it. According to our reports (real-time map), India has been amongst the top 10 most attacked countries in the world in 2019,” says Dipesh Kaura, General Manager, Kaspersky (South Asia).
India is fast becoming a digitized economy and Dipesh mentions few security trends that has can be observed in the year ahead.
“We as a country are also aggressively progressing towards becoming a digitized economy, and the following are a few security trends that can be seen in India in 2020:
• Data privacy and protection: As 2019 witnessed a lot of data breaches and increased awareness amongst people about privacy, we can see this trend growing bigger in 2020.
• Securing IOT/ Smart devices: India has now begun to use IOT technology and install smart devices in their lives. With the adaption of this technology, they will further need to understand how best these advanced technologies can be used and secure themselves from potential threats.
• Increase in APT targeted attacks: Targeted attacks have been on a rise in the past few years and we see the same trend growing in India as well,” highlights Dipesh.
Threats from Social Media
Nowadays Social media is the most trending thing among people which includes kids and teens. It also attracts social media threats where people fall prey to it easily. They are prone to threats like identity theft and cyber bullying. So it is quite obvious that kids are more vulnerable to the threats.
“Today a majority of the audience that is consuming social media consists of kids and teenagers. It is not difficult to understand that if adults can fall prey to social media threats like identity theft and cyber bullying then our kids are even more vulnerable to such threats. Kaspersky has introduced Kaspersky Safe Kids to fight such concerns that today's parents face while keeping their kids safe online,” mentions Dipesh.
AI - a boon or bane
All the advanced technologies come with advantages and disadvantages. It depends on the people how they can reap benefit out of it. These days AI is being adopted in an increasing way, so if AI can be channelized in a constructive way then it will be beneficial for the nation.
“Advanced technologies will always have pros and cons to them. It depends on the nation and its citizens on how well can they use the technology to their benefit. With Artificial Intelligence being adapted progressively a lot can be done to benefit the nation.
Potential misuse of the same would be if personal information abuse grows, armed with AI. It is very similar to some of the techniques discussed for driving election advertisements through social media. This technology is already in use and it is just a matter of time before some attackers take advantage of it,” views Dipesh.
Plans for 2020
Recently, Kaspersky has tied up with Supertron Electronics to tap the growing market of India and expand its footprint to the remotest areas of the country. It also plans to aware the partners about consumer threats and train them on Kaspersky products so that consumers can fight cyber threats and secure themselves.
“India is a very important and growing market for us, hence we wanted to take all the right steps in 2020 which started with our elaborate plan with Supertron Electronics to expand our reach all over India.
With the help of Supertron Electronics, it will be possible for us to reach the remotest regions of India hence targeting the consumers there through their partners. Our plan along with Supertron Electronics for 2020 is to make all the partners aware of the consumer threats and train them about how Kaspersky's products will help the consumers fight these threats and secure themselves to benefit the most from the growing technology,” concludes Dipesh.
