It is Tsunami time for Global AI Industry
The year 2023 has truly been the year of “agility”. AI will be bigger than the internet and cloud combined – but we have to be bold, dream bigger dreams, and move quickly to inspire truly transformative innovation and change.
Microsoft's investments into OpenAI have played a significant role in the development of ChatGPT and other large language models. These investments have provided OpenAI with the resources it needs to conduct cutting-edge research in artificial intelligence, and they have also helped to attract talented researchers to the company.
Microsoft is integrating ChatGPT into a number of its products, including Bing search, sales and marketing software, GitHub coding tools, the Microsoft 365 productivity bundle, and Azure cloud. This integration will make ChatGPT's capabilities available to a wider audience and will help to accelerate the adoption of AI in a variety of industries.
OpenAi was formed with the help of 12 people in 2015 and one of them was Tesla chief Elon Musk. But none have been more instrumental to the organization than Sam Altman, who served as its CEO from 2019 until last Friday when he was fired by OpenAI's board of directors. More than 600 OpenAI employees then signed a letter to the company’s board and threatened to join their former boss at Microsoft unless the members resigned.
What OpenAI's turmoil means for Microsoft's multi-billion-dollar investment is still unclear, but here's why OpenAI's implosion could actually propel the tech giant to the top of the AI industry. Sources said, Microsoft backed the venture, having first injected $1 billion in 2019. Its total investment in OpenAI is rumored to be around $13 billion. Seems under the stake.
The future of OpenAI is still uncertain and it remains unclear where Altman will work. To save the billions of dollar investments, Microsoft had offered Altman to lead "a new advanced AI research team". It is still unclear whether Altman will ultimately join Microsoft, which is OpenAI's biggest investor by far. Expert says, the plan B would be to join Elon Musk's new AI company, xAI. xAI has the potential to make a significant positive impact on the field of artificial intelligence
Moving ahead, we will be watching closely to see what these company accomplishes in the days to come.
