'IT has become a vital and integral part of every business plan'
Amod Phadke – Director - Sales and Marketing, GCR (Global Channel Resources) discusses with VARINDIA of how the use of new technologies is serving as a major goal for organizations and is also leading transformations for businesses today -
How is IT becoming a Broad agenda in an organization?
Information Technology (IT) adoption is becoming an important aspect in every vertical, which include small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Due to the numerous advantages of IT, SMEs are trying to adopt IT applications to support their businesses. IT adoption by SMEs differs from larger organisations because of their specific characteristics, including resource constraints. The proposed model of effective IT adoption is believed to provide managers, vendors, consultants and governments a practical synopsis of the IT adoption process in SMEs, which will, in turn, assist them to be successful with IT adoption within these businesses.
Effective ways of using Digital tools have also become a major aspect as using the new technologies like IoT, Big Data and AI in an effective way has to be the major goal for any organisation. Using these new technologies for a successful adoption lies with the Business owners and the Board members for the benefit of the organisation. Since the end customer’s satisfaction is the key for a successful business, IT adoption with new technologies works as the most important agenda for all the board meetings.
With advances in big data, open-source software, cloud computing, many firms are using cognitive computing and artificial intelligence to perform everyday tasks, what is your take on it?
Transforming business - the Digital way is the key, but one should know how to effectively use the advanced technologies like IoT, Big Data, SaaS-enabled software, Cloud computing. Research says that the organisations that have attempted this, had a failure rate of 60%, but on the flip side, 80% of the organisations that have effectively used Multi-vendor Digital tools on platforms have been successful in the implementation. However, fact remains that advanced technologies are used in the everyday task is to gain end customer satisfaction or delight and we all strive for the same.
What does the new IT function look like?
Information technology (IT) has become a vital and integral part of every business plan. From multi-national corporations who maintain mainframe systems and databases to small businesses that own a single computer, IT plays a role. The reasons for the universal use of computer technology in business can best be determined by looking at how it is being used across the business world. The 3 major functions of the IT department are:
Governance refers to the implementation of operational parameters for working units and individuals' use of IT systems, architecture, and networks. The governance of the master data is based on workflow processes that integrate business rules and subject matter domain expertise. This is part of the conventional IT security as well as the data assurance for which the IT department is also responsible.
Infrastructure refers to the hardware components, the network, the circuitry, and all other equipment necessary to make an IT system function according to the established needs and system "size" of the company.
Functionality is perhaps the most apparent task performed by the IT department. It refers to creating and maintaining operational applications; developing, securing, and storing electronic data that belongs to the organisation; and assisting in the use of software and data management to all functional areas of the organisation.
With the new advanced technologies like IoT, Big Data, Open source SaaS enabled Software and Cloud computing, the IT teams function is also to make sure that the advanced technologies are effectively used with their existing infrastructure and how to overcome the compatibility and support issues with the new technologies for effective readiness.
