Intel demos Cloud-In-A-Box solution
Intel Corporation has demonstrated so called the world's smallest data centre or the "baby cloud," which can be transported in a suitcase. Intel's cloud-specific technologies include TXT (Trusted Execution Technology), which checks for the physical integrity of the hardware to ensure that nobody has tampered with it and AES-NI (Advanced Encryption Standard - New Instructions), which is designed to speed up encryption at the hardware level.
Nick Knupffer, Marketing Platform manager, Intel Data Centre Group, Asia-Pacific and People's Republic of China, said, "In the near future, around five per cent of the world's total power will be consumed by data centres across the globe and Intel wants to help reduce the amount of power required for data centres. By 2015, there will be over one billion people using the Web and 15 billion devices will be connected to the Internet, consuming over 1 zettabyte (which is equal to 1 billion terabytes and is represented by the number 1 followed by 21 zeros) of information.
R. Ravichandran, Director-Sales, Intel South Asia, said, "The cloud basically converts your capital expenditure to operational expenditure and gives you a pay-as-you-go model. With technologies like this, both you and your provider can grow in a modular fashion."
