Huawei organizes Global Power Industry Summit

Huawei has organized its second Global Power Industry Summit in Brisbane, Australia based on "Innovative ICT Empowers Better Connected Smart Grids". The event gathered representatives from power companies, industry organizations, and the academic community from around the world to share insights and best practices on building connected smart grids and explore upcoming trends in the power industry.

As part of the event, Huawei and IDC also released a joint report titled “ICT Enables Superior Grid Performance” and Christopher Holme, Senior Analyst of International Data Corporation (IDC) spoke about the role of innovative ICT technology in building better connected power grids.

The roundtable sessions at the Summit focused on exploring the various forms of next generation power grids including distributed energy, automated, and the Internet of Things (IoT)-based grids. After a series of discussions, event participants concluded that smart grids for the future need to be interconnected, allows for all sensible scenarios, secure, and reliable as traditional centralized and one-way power grids will not be able to support the deployment of new service offerings.

“A better connected smart grid has four major features, firstly it should be interactive and compatible with renewable energy resource, then it requires a smarter dispatch that could adjust the electricity tariffs that regulate power consumption demands, at the meantime, IT and OT will be coordinated in the future that ask for a consolidated grid, and there is one pre-condition underlying these features, which is a robust and self-healing capability. With all these crucial features, a better Smart Grid will closely connect consumers, electricity, and equipment in every second, every watt, and everywhere. A better Smart Grid will be a fully-connected grid that provides electricity everywhere at every second, and utilizes every watt” said David He, President of Marketing and Solution Sales, Huawei Enterprise Business Group.
