HID's 2024 Security Report Highlights Mobile IDs, MFA, and Sustainability as Key Trends
HID, a prominent player in trusted identity solutions, has just released its highly anticipated 2024 State of the Security Industry Report, offering valuable insights into the current landscape of security trends. Based on responses from 2,600 industry professionals worldwide, including partners, end users, and security and IT personnel, the report sheds light on the evolving challenges and innovations shaping the security sector.
Prabhuraj Patil, Commercial Director of Physical Access Control Solutions for ASEAN and India Subcontinent at HID, emphasized the significance of the report for decision-makers in strategizing their security approaches and investments. He noted that trends such as increased adoption of mobile access and a focus on sustainability are expected to influence the Physical Access Control market significantly in the coming months.
The report identifies six key themes:
Mobile Identity: The report predicts that mobile IDs will become increasingly ubiquitous over the next five years, with nearly 80% of organizations expected to deploy them. Industry partners are even more optimistic, projecting a deployment rate of 94% among their customers.
Multi-factor Authentication (MFA): Despite the slow adoption of Zero Trust security frameworks, over 83% of end users currently utilize MFA due to the vulnerabilities of traditional passwords. Zero Trust has been implemented in varying degrees across organizations, with larger enterprises leading the way.
Sustainability: Sustainable practices are gaining importance in business decisions, with 74% of end users reporting increased significance over the past year. This trend is expected to drive demand for solutions that minimize energy consumption and optimize resource usage.
Biometrics: Fingerprint, palm print, and facial recognition technologies are experiencing impressive momentum, with a significant portion of installers and integrators reporting their use. The adoption of biometrics is expected to increase further in the coming years.
Cloud-based Identity Management: Nearly half of end users are transitioning to cloud-based identity management systems, despite challenges such as reliance on legacy equipment and budget constraints.
Artificial Intelligence (AI): AI's analytic capabilities are being increasingly leveraged to enhance identity management. While AI adoption is still in its nascent stages, a significant number of end users are planning to test or implement AI-enabled solutions in the next three to five years.
Overall, the 2024 State of Security Report from HID provides valuable insights into the current state of the security industry, empowering organizations to stay ahead of emerging threats and leverage innovative solutions to protect their assets and data.
