“With history that dates back to the 1950s, Artificial Intelligence is augmenting human capacities in ways that even scientists working in this field are startled. What was once a plot device in sci-fi movies is now evolving at a fast pace, offering previously unimagined opportunities as well as threats.
Whether it is about Alexa knowing which song to play next, social networking sites enlisting customized content in our feed, or GPS directing us to an ideal, time-saving driving route as per the current traffic situation, it is about AI applications specializing in a complex task and even overtaking those that made them.
Artificial Intelligence is not just a new set of technology; it’s a whole new world. Looking around us, we can see AI almost everywhere – from virtual digital assistants helping us find information and execute tasks whenever instructed, the smart GPS-based apps recommending the fastest route as per traffic, self-driving cars self-navigating and adapting to the real-time changing conditions, through to augmented intelligence where AI systems can go beyond humans like discovering a new drug.
As we move closer towards a technologically-driven society, AI is set to make our lives easier, helping us save time, effort, and money. Some scientists believe its 30 years away; others say centuries.”
