Foreign company names used for cyber fraud
Cybercrime cases are multiplying each year in India, fraudsters are using various tricks to lure money. Cybercrime cases are indeed increasing in India, as well as in many other countries.
Fraudsters employ various tactics to deceive individuals and organizations and illicitly obtain money or sensitive information.
Fraudsters send deceptive emails, messages, or make phone calls impersonating trusted entities like banks, government organizations, or service providers. They aim to trick recipients into revealing personal information, such as passwords, credit card details, or bank account numbers.
Phishing is a fraudulent practice in which an attacker masquerades as a reputable entity or person in an email or other form of communication. Attackers commonly use phishing emails to distribute malicious links or attachments that can extract login credentials, account numbers and other personal information from victims.
Phishing is a type of social engineering and cybersecurity attack where the attacker impersonates someone else via email or other electronic communication methods, including social networks and SMS, to reveal sensitive information.
Fraudsters even create fake websites or online marketplaces to deceive individuals into making payments for goods or services that don't exist. Fraudsters exploit human psychology and manipulate individuals into revealing confidential information or performing actions against their best interests.
Fraudsters use malicious software to gain unauthorized access to computers or networks, encrypt data, and demand a ransom for its release. A report says, when you get any email or message from any reputed company, then also you have to be very careful, before opening the link or any attachments.
Cyber fraudsters are now using the names of foreign companies as bait to deceive people and embezzle their money. They will often call or email people claiming to be from a well-known foreign company, such as Google or Amazon. They will then say that the person has won a prize or been selected for a job, but that they need to pay a fee in order to claim it. Once the person pays the fee, the fraudsters disappear.
A report uncovers that, there are several fake websites that have been created, using the name of the US company. Similar frauds using the names of other foreign companies have also been observed.
