Empowering IT Strategy
S Mohini Ratna Editor VARINDIA
With the rapid adoption of cloud, mobility and video in today's fast-paced environment, analytics and big data are driving unprecedented network growth and complexity in the data center, which is a new paradigm for Security.
One can’t deny the importance of data center. A survey has revealed that $39 billion of SAP landscape (SAP applications and infrastructure in the cloud) could move to the cloud in the next two years as large enterprises are planning to migrate 46% of their existing data to SAP on-premise environment, the reason being business agility, innovation, service, impact and increased customer’s satisfaction. The number of enterprises moving to cloud is increasing because of the integration challenges with existing systems and the security concerns associated with it.
The importance of having a cloud portfolio increases manifold as investment in the same will help organizations to transform their data centers and become more prolific. Cloud brings completely a new paradigm of organizing enterprise IT, developing new products and services and delivering consumer experiences. Increasing adoption of social, mobile, analytics and cloud computing (SMAC) stack by enterprises breaks the existing paradigm of security. Malicious applications may steal vital information stored on an employee’s mobile device and lead to a major data breach. This evolution is challenging with the ability of current security capabilities to address business-critical risks. The way forward for organizations is to focus on new services around emerging technologies. In the recently held IT Forum in New Delhi, experts discussed the emerging trends and best practices on cybersecurity, Internet governance, cybercrime handling and offered valuable views and suggestions on readiness for countering cybercrimes. India is one of the top countries with the highest rate of cybercrime incidents and computer virus infections. This not only affects a lot of individuals but also businesses and governments, who are regular targets of coordinated hacking attacks. Thus, the need of the hour is for the requirement of a strategic advisor with a deep understanding of digital business to help them create and sustain competitive advantage. In the upcoming Union Budget 2014, expectations are many from the new Government in setting up the development agenda for economic improvement. The Budget is likely to consider issues like Inverted Duty Structures that would boost manufacturing in India, introduce GST, streamline procurement process for technology products and services including SME participation, settle long-pending dues on projects executed by the Central and State Governments and provide incentives for adoption of IT across sectors. Today, smartphone and tablet owners who visit social networks from their mobile devices are also at risk of having their personal data stolen. I think there is a tremendous amount of innovation that is still to happen in empowering the IT strategy for this as it is high time for setting a new framework designed to test cyber vulnerabilities at every possible level. With a great hope for good governance in new government…See What’s Next in Tech With the Fast Forward Newsletter
