Emmett Shear is the new interim CEO of OpenAI
OpenAI's board has reportedly appointed former Twitch CEO Emmett Shear as the new chief executive officer, despite calls from investors to reinstate the ousted Sam Altman. Shear will take over as CEO from Mira Murati, who was publicly aligned with Altman.
This marks the third CEO transition in OpenAI in last few days. The tech industry was taken aback as OpenAI's board announced the removal of Altman.
Shear stepped down as the CEO of Twitch in February this year and was named a part-time advisor to Y Combinator, a San Francisco-based startup.
"Today I got a call inviting me to consider a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: to become the interim CEO of @OpenAI. After consulting with my family and reflecting on it for just a few hours, I accepted," Emmet said in his X post.
After joining OpenAI as new interim CEO, Shear plans to implement a three point plan for the next 30 days. He will hire an independent investigator to examine the ouster of Sam Altman, gather insights from investors and employees for the same and revamp management and leadership to restore trust in the company and prioritise customer-centric results.
