Dilip Kumar laid to rest with full state honours
Veteran actor Dilip Kumar, who passed away aged 98 on Wednesday, was laid to rest with full state honours in Mumbai.
As per the state funeral protocols, Kumar's body was draped with the tricolor at his Pali Hill residence, before being moved to the burial ground.
Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray and celebrities including Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor and Karan Johar visited his residence to pay their last respects.
The death of Mohammad Yusuf Khan (Dilip Kumar), who earned money by keeping a Hindu name in the film world, is an irreparable loss to Indian film industry!"
While not more than 25-30 people were allowed inside the Qabrastan, the venue was packed with media and fans of the late star. The crowd, of nearly 100 people, was being controlled by the police.
Post the funeral, megastar Amitabh Bachchan and son Abhishek Bachchan visited the Juhu Qabrastan to pay their respects to Kumar.
Actor Jackie Shroff remembered Dilip Kumar said, "Dilip saab was a great legend and he was one of the pillars of the Indian film industry. Jackie, who worked with Dilip in the films 'Karma' and 'Saudagar', further said, "We [all will] really miss him."
At the same time, Prem Chopra, who worked with Dilip Kumar in six films including 'Kranti' and 'Dastaan', shared his experience of working with the late actor and said, "[It]...was amazing."
"An actor's status...increased by working with Dilip Sahab," he added. "He was the greatest actor this country has ever seen or will ever see...Such actors are born once in a century," said Prem.
