CERT-In alerts Android users to potential security risks
Numerous security flaws affecting smartphones running recent versions of the Android operating system have been brought to the attention of CERT-In (Computer Emergency Response Team). The advice points to problems with a number of different components, including the closed-source Qualcomm components, MediaTek, Framework, System, AMLogic, Arm, and Qualcomm. Concerning Android 12, 13, and 14, the faults are rated as "High" severity.
CERT-In on its website has cautions against "multiple vulnerabilities". If the vulnerabilities are not addressed then attackers can gain access to the phone and access sensitive information. As of now the only solution is to update apps directly via the Play Store. Users must also check if there's an Android OS update available.
Millions of users can be affected in India by the risk as the country has a large Android user base.
The only way to stay safe is to keep the phone up-to-date. It is also to ensure that the apps are running the latest versions. Users need to check if there are any pending OS updates.
While the new vulnerabilities are system-related flaws, users are also generally advised to use apps by trusted developers. Also, do not download apps from third-party online stores.
