BOSS deployments saving huge indirect savings

All operating systems in our gadgets are made and managed by Global Tech companies. Now, the govt is planning to facilitate an ecosystem to create an indigenous OS as an alternative to Android and iOS. With this, the government has geared to use the BOSS operating system for official use and to control different cyber vulnerabilities in Indian cyberspace. BOSS Linux is a secured operating system created for the clients in the defence sector.

Operating systems play a key role in weaving applications together in a computer or mobile device with hardware. Currently, the market is dominated by Android from Google, Microsoft Windows in the Personal computer segment and Apple’s iOS operating system in the mobile device segment.

The defence environment always requires an operating system which is free from intrusion and cyberattacks. BOSS is a free linux based OS like Ubuntu, or we can say, it is Linux of India that supports 18 Indian languages and offers a low-cost computing platform, flexibility and choice to the end users.

The technology has been designed in a user-friendly manner, any Microsoft Windows users can migrate to the BOSS operating system because of its exceptional features like presentation tools, documents converter, All-in-One control panel, and also features like plug and play.

Over 25 lakh BOSS installations have been completed so far. The government is hopeful to negate the Google-Apple duopoly riding on India’s thriving tech startup ecosystem. By replacing Windows with BOSS, Indian Govt. can aim for greater protection and more security of its data. BOSS deployments have resulted in indirect savings of over Rs. 250 crores by not using proprietary software.

Finally, it is time for the government to come up with a policy that will facilitate India’s startups and internet entrepreneurs. In fact, Indian startups have long been complaining about the charges levied by Apple AppStore and Google Play for hosting apps on their platforms.

An indigenous operating system will give the government a degree of control on the apps hosted, data sharing, security and more. The plan will further boost the vision in line with its Atmanirbhar Bharat or Self-Reliant India policy.
