In a chat with VARINDIA, Sudhir Tiku, Business Head, Security Systems, Bosch India discusses the trends, strategy, challenges and future of the surveillance industry -
The India security and surveillance market is gradually shifting from security in closed private space to public areas. This transition is mainly due to increased crime rates, and security breaches causing loss of human life and assets. This shift has resulted into an increased spending from both the government and the private sector.
“The security and surveillance market in India is currently at a dynamic stage as the industry moves from security in closed private spaces to security of public places. This has resulted in spending from both government and the private sector. A prominent rise in security threats has propelled governments from different countries to prioritize the development and advance the adoption of surveillance techniques. Increasing crime rates and growing instances of security breaches across leading to massive loss of human life and assets, are the major drivers of the electronic security market. We believe in providing sophisticated hi-tech security solutions to its clients. The need of today is for a smart city with connected solutions that constantly monitors data from across the city and helps make better decisions, a need that Bosch is committed to address,” describes Sudhir Tiku.
Trends
As India is inching towards building Smart Cities, the need for video surveillance is becoming critical. Bosch believes that with technological improvements, efficient urban mobility and a safe environment can be built.
“India is on its way to develop its first ‘100 Smart Cities’. Modern cities, however, must look to put in place smart security solutions to combat challenges such as criminal activity, incidents of violence and terrorist attacks. Bosch believes that a more efficient urban mobility and a safer environment can be achieved via technological improvements. Video surveillance, fire alarms and protection, access control, intrusion alarm, public address and emergency evacuation systems are some of the important safety and security building blocks for a smart city. A smart city needs to have such solutions properly planned and effectively deployed and monitored by the administrative agencies. As the drive to build smart and secure cities is gaining momentum, the significance of video-based surveillance to ensure safety at home, workplace and beyond is increasing multi-fold. Not just people but business themselves are now initiating the need of video surveillance in the living environment,” states Sudhir.
Strategy
The core strength of Bosch is its engineering and on basis of this, the company builds its solutions. It helps to convert cities into a vibrant, attractive and sustainable place with its varied solutions.
“Bosch has a strong engineering core and creates solutions for the present and with the future in mind. Bosch has an ongoing process for transforming the cities of the future into vibrant, attractive, and sustainable places for people to be. It has a wide range of networked solutions for efficiently monitoring public areas in cities and effectively managing security, safety, and communications. Bosch is all set to change with the onset of smart cities, where buildings will be specifically designed to accommodate advanced technology and installing video surveillance solutions will become imperative. In addition, it is to be noticed that the application and importance of video surveillance will move from just security to tracking, monitoring, crime-prevention, disaster-prevention, among many others. Our systems are IP-driven and are on open platforms, hence our products can be configured to many potential applications and can fit into any vertical. With the impetus that the Smart City Mission has received in the last four-five years, we are working closely on some projects,” explains Sudhir.
Talking about the challenges that are dampening the growth of the security surveillance market, Sudhir says, “In India, the first challenge is social in nature. Citizens must be informed of the capabilities that security solutions possess in order to set reasonable expectations. At the same time, product quality must not suffer amidst the pressure to provide solutions effectively. Market research that allows organizations to better understand the industry is a time and labour intensive process, made more complicated by mass migrations within the country that end up changing the audience profile.”
