Bharti Enterprises appoints Soumen Ghosh as MD - Financial Services

Bharti Enterprises, one of India’s leading business groups, today announced the appointment of Soumen Ghosh as Managing Director – Financial Services.

In his new role, Sam will build strategic business value proposition for Bharti’s financial services businesses. He will be responsible for further strengthening the management processes, business expansion and governance of these businesses.

Sam comes with an extremely successful career spanning over 35 years, of which the last 28 are in the insurance sector across Asia-Pacific & Middle-Eastern region. He is known as one of the pioneers of the insurance industry ever since the sector was opened up for participation of private players. He was at the forefront of setting up the Life and General Insurance business for Allianz, not just in India but the whole of South-East Asia.

Sam was the Regional CEO of Middle East and India Sub Continent region of Allianz before which he was the CEO of Bajaj Allianz Life and General Insurance and also set up operations for Allianz in South East Asia. Prior to joining Allianz, Sam spent ten years in Australia in various senior roles with Allianz - from CFO to managing subsidiary companies as well as setting up operations in the Pacific Rim.

Prior to joining Bharti, Sam was heading the financial services business at Reliance Capital as Executive Director & Group Chief Executive Officer across a variety of business lines like insurance, mutual funds, commercial and housing finance, broking & distribution.

Sam is a Chartered Accountant from England and is a Mechanical Engineer.
