Asif Basra found hanging in his rented place
Television & film actor Asif Basra was found hanging in a private complex in Himachal Pradesh. An actor par excellence, Asif had starred in Black Friday, Parzania, Lamhaa, Once Upon A Time in Mumbai, Kai Po Che, Jab We Met, Krissh 3, Ek Villain are among a few films he left his mark on. Asif had also starred in web series Patal Lok & Hostages.
Despite his versatile roles, he will be best remembered for his role in the American comedy film Outsourced & Quicksand
The 53 year old actor had been living in a rented house in McLeodganj for the last 5 years, says reports.
He had also starred in several plays in India and abroad, performing in English, Hindi and Urdu theatre productions.
Asif was born in Maharashtra's Amravati in 1967. He moved to Mumbai in 1989 to pursue his acting career.
On hearing about the actor’s sudden demise, the industry poured in their condolences.
Directors Hansal Mehta and Onir were among the first to condole the death of actor Asif Basra on Thursday.
Hansal wrote on Twitter, “Asif Basra! Can’t be true... This is just very, very sad.” Filmmaker Onir wrote, “In shock. Can’t believe that we have lost him. #asifbasra Used to meet him so often at the park jogging. He would tell me not to jog sideways, I might loose balance and hurt myself.”
Actor Danish Hussain remembered working with Asif on the web series Hostages. He wrote in a tweet, “Oh this is tragic and heartbreaking. A dear friend and always had a good tip to give. We just acted together in #Hostages2 recently for @DisneyPlusHS Really heartbroken to hear about you dear friend.”
Actor Manoj Bajpayee, who worked with Asif in the film Dus Tola, wrote, “What? This is too shocking!! Shot with him just before Lockdown!!! Oh My God!!!” Shruti Seth, meanwhile, reacted to a news story about Asif’s death with broken-heart emojis.
Emraan Hashmi, who worked with Asif in Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, tweeted, “Rip Asif bhai.”
The reason behind the actor’s death is still unknown. The police is investigating the case.
