Artificial Intelligence to drive tech innovation in India
In today’s time and age when the world is becoming barrier free due to Internet connectivity even in the remotest location, a person is always just a mail away. But when someone is on a holiday, the last thing they expect is a work mail and hence came the auto reply. Auto generated mail is nothing but artificial intelligence letting people know that you are not around. And this is just a basic crude example to begin with.
As our life converges with Internet for everything that we do it is not very far away that our lives will revolve around artificial intelligence going forward.
In the last few years AI has taken the world by storm and has created a stir not only amongst engineers but common man too. And it is fitting that it will trickle down in our daily life activities, in fact it already does. From road mapping to providing you with short cuts dedicated to your destination, to flights to medical care to school admissions, it is everywhere and it is only pertinent that it is made easy for people to understand what AI is all about and how we will drive innovation through this ecosystem.
India is one of the leading nations to adopt technology at a rapid pace across its industries as many its sectors are directly adopting latest technologies circumventing any legacy tech to migrate from.
This trend is most prevalent in the mobile telecom space as India is the country at the forefront of adopting the latest tech, with over 1.2 billion mobile phones in use as of 2017, which is just behind China and a number, which is almost 4 times the size of the mobile users in the US.
This growth in mobile phone has pushed data costs down to one of the cheapest in the world starting from $2-$3 per month for over 40GB of data. This has also led to faster adoption of shopping via e-commerce platforms and making payments through digital payments.
India’s young age entrepreneurs are using tech as a ladder to reach larger population in fastest time with least expenditure. This is making India an exciting place for launching hundreds of start-ups, which are solving real issues through various accelerators and incubation centres started by first or second generation entrepreneurs.
Even the Indian government in its recent budgetary announcement is now promoting Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and data analytics etc. by directing its planning arm Niti Ayog to run national programs on them to ensure it reaches at the grass root level.
All these initiatives are thrusting the India techies to look for newer and better ways to run operations with AI as sectors such as fashion retail stores are now using facial recognition tech to do customer mapping for personalized shopping and experiential experience.
With global tech giants and mobile companies launching their own AI enabled personal assistants, this field is set to grow exponentially and we will witness the next wave of tech adoption via mobile phones. As India is already ahead of the curve in the mobile users universe, many India engineering colleges, which are amongst the best in the world, will increase their course time in tackling AI for emerging economies such as India.
This breed of young engineers will then put AI to use in every aspect of human life. This is already being witnessed in mobile ad tech space as an extreme level of automation has led to AI enabled advertising delivering personalized experience for users.
Now, world is waiting for Indian techies to create next Google, Microsft, Uber, AirBnB, Facebook, SAP and Apple’s of the world and put India in its rightful place in the tech universe.
