Ambient computing
Ambient computing is used to describe smart devices, data, A.I. decisions, and human activity that enables computer actions alongside everyday life without the need for direct human commands or intervention. Ambient computing, also called ubiquitous computing, is the concept of blending computing power into our everyday lives in a way that is embedded into our surroundings - invisible but useful.
Ambient computing is about making the computer “disappear”. The goal is to reduce the friction involved in utilizing technology, making it easier for users to take full advantage of tech without fussing with keyboards and screens. This technology will make the choices for you as it sees your patterns. What if your house set the air-conditioning based on last year's data so you didn't even have to touch a button? Even perhaps controlling the amount of power you use in a given month.
Experts say that IoT and ambient computing sound a lot alike, but it is not true. However, the two concepts are intertwined. IoT refers to the vast array of devices that connect to the internet to optimize their functionality, like smart sensors and smart speakers: ambient computing builds on that. IoT forms a base for ambient computing, with ambient computing more focused on how devices and intelligent services interact with users.
In other words, ambient computing focuses on the interaction between these devices once they are connected. For example, a lightbulb that connects to an app is an IoT device; however, how the lightbulb gathers data from its surroundings about your preferences and acts accordingly is where ambient computing comes in. Ambient computing contains this communication at the core and harnesses the environment for business processes and insights.
Ambient Computing with the help of artificial intelligence, smart agents in glasses, lamps, loudspeakers, and even entire lighting, heating, and energy supply systems communicate seamlessly with the people around them. And we interact smoothly with the machines that enrich our lives with information, translation, light, and music.
