Amazon to start running advertisements on Prime Video next year
According to an announcement made by Amazon, its Prime Video service will start to feature a limited number of commercials on January 29, 2024. If users would like to stay away from commercials, they can do so by adding $2.99 to their monthly subscription fee. Amazon made it clear that the price hike is exclusive to the US and that prices will differ in other nations.
Through its website, Amazon has opened pre-orders for the ad-free subscription. Those who don’t wish to escalate to an ad-free option don’t need to do anything on their part.
According to the email information regarding the introduction of “limited advertisements” on Prime Video, this will allow the company to continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time. The company also said that it will introduce only “meaningfully fewer ads” than television and other streaming platforms.
This will be first introduced in the US, UK, Germany, and Canada. Later in 2024, it will be extended to France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and Australia.
The Amazon Prime membership costs Rs 299 per month. The quarterly plan (3 months) costs Rs 599 and the annual plan is priced at Rs 1,499. The annual cost for Amazon Prime Lite is Rs 799. The Prime membership offers one-day delivery, two-day delivery, scheduled delivery, and same-day delivery. It also offers 5 percent cent cashback using Amazon Pay ICICI Bank Credit Card on purchases made on Amazon. The membership also comes with Amazon Music and Amazon Prime Video subscriptions.
