AI can make you a Misinformation Kin
The world has seen a significant shift towards digitalization and automation across various industries and sectors. Advancements in technology, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics, have made it possible to automate many processes that were previously done manually, leading to increased efficiency and productivity. The flip side of the story is , with the help of Artificial intelligence it’ll confuse you which one is real image from a fake one, but taking a closer look and verifying sources can help combat misinformation and disinformation.
Expert are now worried that artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics models could be used for large-scale disinformation. Crafting a new false narrative can now be done at dramatic scale, and much more frequently. It’s like having A.I. agents contributing to disinformation.
A report says, there are dozens of fake news websites spread across the web in multiple languages, some publishing hundreds of AI-generated articles a day. Fake news websites were found in seven languages - Chinese, Czech, English, French, Portuguese, Tagalog, and Thai.
Google just lost the proclaimed “Godfather of AI”, Geoffrey Hinton, who left the company following his concerns over misinformation and AI. Hinton fears AI could cause public confusion over what is true and what isn’t. With this several questions are arising like,
# What does the mass spread of misinformation mean for both our habits and our perception of public figures?
# Could AI have serious implications on the information we are consuming daily?
The ongoing spread of misinformation via AI, might cause what people see to be more about money and less about truth, and the long-term implications. We’re already seeing this happen everywhere from ads to social media, and what it means for future consumer behaviour.
Secondly, it is high time for AI algorithms to get trained to generate convincing fake images, videos, and text, making it difficult to distinguish between what is real and what is not. This has serious implications for the credibility of information sources and our ability to make well-informed decisions.
Another move to witness every company has got the memo that they need to declare how they’re using the technology. We’re in the middle of a new-tech hype cycle reminiscent, in its unskeptical intensity, of what followed the emergence of Web3, NFTs and the metaverse. Sure, generative AI technologies like ChatGPT have far more obvious and immediate value to both consumers and businesses than any of those. But figuring out which companies will truly benefit from this technology, only time will say.
As we move towards a more digital and automated era, it's important to keep in mind the potential challenges and opportunities that arise. While automation can increase efficiency and productivity, it can also lead to job displacement and other social and economic implications.
