After 5G fever what next
5G is the next generation of wireless connectivity ,It’s faster than 4G and will support more devices, which means it will be able to connect everything from your phone to your car’s engine to medical devices in hospitals. The new technology will allow for more real-time responses, so you can control a virtual reality headset in a video game without having to wait for it to load.
Moreover, it’s also not just about speed, it’s about data. 5G networks are designed to handle more data than 4G, which means that even if you’re streaming high-resolution videos or playing at 1080p resolution on your gaming console with an Xbox, there’s still plenty of room for growth.
5G connectivity is now active in 47 of the world’s 70 largest economies by GDP.A recent report says, there are 2,497 cities globally with commercial 5G networks, across 92 countries. A further 23 countries have pre-commercial 5G trials underway and 32 countries have announced their 5G intentions. This leaves just 48 countries, many of which are smaller island nations that have not publicly announced plans for 5G.The data also revealed several other major trends relating to 5G deployments.
5G helps to enable ways for gamers to play anywhere, without continuously purchasing hardware upgrades or expensive games. Cloud gaming is a new way of consuming video games that’s set to grow significantly in the next five years. This is possible because the games (hardware and software) are hosted in remote data centers, from where the game is streamed to the player’s device.
5G mobile technology promises a ten-fold increase in data transmission rates compared to current 4G networks, which will be achieved by using a higher transmission frequency.
In India, while Reliance Jio is aggressively rolling out its 5G network across India, the country is expected to have about a third of wireless users or ~300 million subscribers using 5G services by March 2025, said a CRISIL report. This is against the estimated ~20-25 million as of March 2023.
At the same time, Bharti Airtel too had announced that it has crossed the 10 million unique 5G user mark on its network. The company, in February, had said that it is well poised to cover every town and key rural areas with Airtel 5G services by the end of March 2024.
5G enables better video and gaming and Today, mobile games generate about 50 percent of the total global gaming industry’s revenues. In addition, the number of 5G smartphone users is set to increase to over 3 billion in 2026. This growth in smartphone users and the evolving capabilities of 4G and 5G networks opens up a much larger addressable market for new gaming services.
Going forward, India is gearing up to roll out high-speed 6G communication services by 2030 and has set up a Bharat 6G project to identify and fund research and deployment of the next-generation technology in the country.
