5 lakh Indian techies may have to return home for change in H-1B Visa rules

5 lakh Indian techies may have to return home for change in H-1B Visa rules

In a new development in US, Donald Trump administration may not be extending H-1B visa for those waiting for permanent residency (Green Card). If Green Card is not processed after 6 yrs, there would be no Visa extension.

India's fast – growing $2 trillion economy, may grow further to add another trillion dollar by 2019 means there are more opportunities for Indians. The Indian government, too, is aggressively courting non-resident Indians with programs such as Startup India, designed to ease bureaucratic restrictions and provide funding.

India may be looking at over five lakh of its skilled workforce returning home from the US if a proposal by the The department of homeland security is said to be considering new regulations that will prevent H-1B visa extensions as part of Trump’s “Buy American, Hire American” initiative by Trump administration. There is a clear trend of companies into the sector of pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, automobiles, healthcare and cyber security in shifting more and more research and development work to India in analytics, risk and technology area. Since, there is a growing demand for those who have already worked on new technologies and they are commanding a premium in the market.

Next global recession may come in 2019.The young, foreign-born skilled workforce pays into the US tax system and enhances the country’s economy. India now offers quality jobs, more R&D options and the opportunity to work with newer technologies, with this fact, It is a clear indication of Indian economy to booms and the U.S. continues to tighten its immigration policies. In past 3 years there are several companies have already started investing in R&D activities. This trend is leading many Indians to return from overseas to lead prime projects.

On average, Indians have to wait at least 10 years to get a green card if they want to transition to it from an H-1B. Young Indian engineer already start leaving the Silicon Valley to come back home in the past few months. Multi-National companies such as Microsoft, Facebook, Accenture, Google, Bosch, Toyota, JPMorgan, Oracle, IBM, Barclays and Novartis are some of the companies that have appointed returning Indians at leadership levels or are in the process of doing so,as they understand the talent of their employees, working in their US office.

Demand for H-1B remains unabated because the US industry says America does not produce enough STEM graduates with requisite skill sets. Technically, the Trump administration is well within the law to amend the rules because the H-1B was meant to address skilled worker shortage in the US, and not intended to become a route for immigration. But over the years, hundreds of thousands of skilled foreign workers, particularly Indians and Chinese, have used the H-1B route to first become permanent residents (Green Card holders) and then become citizens. It is the proven fact that, Indian born professionals has given their significant contribution to the US tech industry.

is fact that, Indian talent is essential for the US to maintain its leadership in the field of innovation and research. a top American senator said amidst the ongoing controversy over immigration under the Trump administration. However, choice remains a big question mark? Today, US is recognised for the leader in innovation and in research and now US wants to keeps them out, then, there will be many Facebook , Uber and Google in the coming days to start from India. Not to forget that India has the advantage advantage of huge population specifically its age wise structure is the biggest advantage it has today. Now, with the original talents to come back to our country, we should welcome and one question remain unanswered on, which side of the coin is so important.
